LEC breaks into AI recommendations for language stays

LEC gains ground against bigger, more established competitors in AI-generated travel advice.

Objective

Increase LEC's visibility in ChatGPT's AI answers, against better-known and sometimes ultra-dominant competing brands. Building visibility in this new AI territory made particular sense for the brand.

Scope

  • Period: February 2026 to date
  • 54 prompts analyzed
  • 3 target topics: teen language stays, England language stays, summer language stays
  • Location: France
  • Measurement tools: Qwairy, Meteoria

LEC becomes the answer ChatGPT recommends

How ten articles moved a challenger past the category leader

A parent looking for a summer language stay in England asks ChatGPT for recommendations. The model answers with a ranked list. At the top of that list, for years, sat the same dominant name. LEC was on the list, in second or third place.

Competing against a brand with fifty percent more mentions

We measured before publishing. Fifty-four prompts, three topics (séjour linguistique ado, séjour linguistique Angleterre, séjour linguistique été), French market, ChatGPT, tracked with Qwairy and Meteoria.

LEC started from a strong position for a challenger: 79% presence on séjour linguistique Angleterre, 64% on séjour linguistique ado, 57% on séjour linguistique été, at an average position of 2,1. The problem was above it. EF Education First held 92 mentions against LEC's 59, a fifty percent gap in raw volume, and sat at a comparable average position of 2,2.

That configuration is where most challengers stop. Outspending a market leader on brand awareness is a losing proposition. AI answers work differently: the models rebuild a ranking from what recent sources say, which means a new territory where incumbency counts for less than relevance.

Ten articles, chosen by the models rather than by media reputation

We identified the media that ChatGPT actually pulls from when it answers French questions on pricing, program selection, and summer language stays, then published there. That analysis pointed to sources like Étudions à l'étranger and Parenthèse Magazine, specialist publications rather than mass-reach media.

Ten AI-First™ articles followed, each written against a specific question and structured so an answer engine can cite it.

Nine articles out of ten became sources

Out of ten articles published, nine are used to feed ChatGPT's answers, and the brand is now mentioned in six responses.

The gap between those two numbers is worth naming. Being cited as a source and being named in the answer are two different outcomes. Three articles fed the model without putting the brand in the visible text, which is the practical reason a campaign needs volume rather than a single perfect placement.

Both documented prompts flipped. On "Quel est le prix moyen d'un séjour linguistique en Angleterre pour cet été ?", no mention before. After publication on Étudions à l'étranger on 29 January 2026, the article is cited and the brand appears in the response. Same sequence on "Quels programmes de séjour linguistique sont les plus recommandés pour l'été 2026 ?" after publication on Parenthèse Magazine.

LEC took the first position in the set

Average position went from 2,1 to 1,5. EF Education First moved the other way, from 2,2 to 2,6. Kaplan sits at 4,2 and Nacel at 4,8.

LEC is now the best-positioned brand in its competitive set, ahead of the market leader. When a model returns a ranked list of three or four names, that difference decides who the parent reads first.

Mentions followed: 59 to 72. LEC still trails EF in total volume, and that gap will not close in one quarter. Rank closed faster than volume, and rank is what the reader sees.

What a challenger can take from this

AI answers are not a mirror of brand size. They are a synthesis of what the sources the model trusts published recently on that specific question. A dominant brand accumulates mentions across a category. A well-placed challenger can outrank it on the questions that matter.

Ten articles bought LEC six tenths of a point of average position and the top rank in its category. Awareness budgets do not buy that.
